In industrial production, emergency rescue, commercial buildings, and other scenarios, silent-canopy diesel generator sets serve as the “core backup” for stable power supply. The quality of on-site installation directly determines the unit’s operational efficiency, noise control performance, and service life; even minor oversights may lead to potential faults. Today, based on practical experience, we outline the complete standardized procedures and critical details for on-site installation of silent-canopy diesel generator sets to support efficient installation and commissioning.

1.Pre-Installation Preparation: Precise Planning, Solid Foundation

Thorough preparation before installation is key to avoiding rework later. It must be comprehensively implemented from three aspects: site, equipment, and tools.

Site Selection and Layout: Prioritize areas with good ventilation, flat terrain, and smooth drainage, away from residential zones and precision equipment workshops that are sensitive to noise. Maintain a maintenance clearance of at least 1.5 meters. The ground must support the total weight of the unit (including its foundation). It is recommended to pour a concrete foundation (thickness ≥15 cm, flatness tolerance ≤3 mm) and pre-embed anchor bolt holes to minimize operational vibration.

Equipment Inspection and Inventory Check: After unpacking, verify that all components—including the main generator set, silent canopy, control cabinet, fuel tank, and muffler—are complete. Inspect the equipment for transport damage and confirm that critical components (e.g., engine, generator, radiator) are intact. Ensure the unit model, rated power, and other specifications match design requirements, and check that all accompanying technical documents (manual, certificate of conformity, wiring diagrams) are complete.

Tool and Auxiliary Material Preparation: Prepare lifting equipment (forklift, crane—rated for the unit’s weight), spirit level, torque wrench, multimeter, insulation resistance tester, etc. Also prepare bolts, washers, sealant, cables, high-temperature-resistant materials for exhaust pipes, and other auxiliary materials in compliance with installation standards.

2. Core Installation Process: Standardized Operation, Attention to Detail

2.1 Unit Positioning and Fixing

Use lifting equipment to carefully place the unit onto the concrete foundation without tilting or impact, ensuring the silent canopy door faces a direction convenient for operation and maintenance.

Use a spirit level to check the unit’s leveling (longitudinal and transverse deviation ≤0.5 mm/m). Fine-tune using shims to ensure even weight distribution.

Insert anchor bolts and tighten them to the torque specified in the manual (typically 35–50 N·m). Keep exposed bolt lengths uniform and use double nuts for anti-loosening to prevent displacement due to vibration during operation.

2.2 Piping Connections: Sealing + Compatibility, Eliminate Risks

Fuel Line Connection: Use oil-resistant rubber hoses or seamless steel pipes. Route the piping as straight as possible with minimal bends, avoiding sharp kinks. Wrap thread seal tape or apply sealant at joints, then conduct a pressure test (pressure ≥0.3 MPa, hold for 30 minutes with no leakage). Keep the distance between the fuel tank and unit ≤5 meters, and position the tank bottom higher than the fuel pump to ensure smooth fuel delivery.

Exhaust System Installation: Install flexible connectors in the exhaust pipe to reduce vibration transmission. Seal joints with high-temperature gaskets. Route the exhaust away from flammable materials (minimum distance ≥50 cm). Outdoors, install a rain cap; for indoor discharge, use dedicated silencing ducts to ensure smooth exhaust flow and compliant noise levels.

Cooling System Commissioning: Check coolant level in the radiator and top up with the same type of antifreeze if low (do not use plain water to avoid scale buildup). Confirm the cooling fan rotates freely and the airflow path is unobstructed. Align the silent canopy’s air intake and exhaust vents with ambient ventilation openings to ensure effective heat dissipation.

2.3 Electrical Connections: Safety First, Accurate Wiring

Cable Wiring: Connect the generator set to the control cabinet and load equipment according to the wiring diagram. Select cable cross-sections matching the unit’s power rating (copper cable current density ≤2.5 A/mm²). Crimp terminals securely and insulate with electrical tape. Clearly distinguish phase lines (L1/L2/L3), neutral (N), and protective earth (PE)—never miswire. Grounding resistance must be ≤4 Ω.

Control Cabinet Commissioning: After connection, check for loose wiring inside the control cabinet and verify that fuse and circuit breaker ratings match specifications. Power on and test indicator lights and instrument displays on the control panel. Confirm voltage and frequency are within standard ranges (380 V ±5%, 50 Hz ±1%).

Protection Device Verification: Test overload protection, short-circuit protection, low oil pressure protection, and high coolant temperature protection to ensure accurate trigger thresholds and reliable operation, preventing equipment damage during abnormal conditions.

2.4 Silent Canopy Commissioning: Optimize Sealing and Noise Reduction

Inspect the canopy’s sealing performance—ensure door seals are intact and fill any gaps in the enclosure with sealant to prevent noise leakage and water ingress.

Confirm internal cooling fans and exhaust channels operate normally to avoid excessive internal temperature during operation (recommended internal temperature ≤60°C).

Measure operating noise: at 1 meter from the canopy, noise should meet design requirements (typically ≤75 dB(A)). If noise exceeds limits, check muffler installation and inspect acoustic insulation for detachment; adjust and optimize as needed.

3. Post-Installation Acceptance: Comprehensive Testing, Ensure Compliance

No-Load Trial Run: Start the unit and run it unloaded for 30–60 minutes. Observe engine speed and generator output voltage/frequency stability. Check for abnormal vibration, noise, oil leaks, water leaks, or air leaks. Use an infrared thermometer to monitor temperatures at bearings, exhaust pipes, etc., ensuring they remain below rated limits.

Load Testing: Gradually increase load to 50%, 80%, and 100% of rated capacity, running each level for 15–30 minutes. Monitor output power, current, and voltage stability, verify proper response of protection devices, and confirm fuel consumption and exhaust emissions meet standards.

Documentation and Handover: After successful acceptance, compile installation records, test data, and equipment manuals into a complete installation dossier. Hand over the equipment to the user, provide training on daily operation procedures, safety precautions, and basic maintenance to ensure proper future use.

Key Notes: Mitigate Risks, Extend Service Life

Strictly follow the “power-off operation” principle during installation. Confirm the unit is de-energized before electrical connections to prevent electric shock.

Never store miscellaneous items, especially flammable or explosive materials, inside the silent canopy. Maintain clear ventilation.

Avoid frequent start-stop cycles during operation. After initial installation, replace engine oil and oil filter after the first run. Perform regular maintenance per the manual thereafter.

For special site conditions (e.g., high temperature, high humidity, extreme cold), implement targeted protective measures (e.g., sunshade canopy, dehumidifier, thermal insulation).

1.Protects the GeneratorWhen asymmetric short circuits occur at the generator outlet or the unit bears unbalanced loads, the GCB can quickly isolate the fault to prevent generator damage. During unbalanced load operation, or internal/external asymmetric short circuits, twice the power frequency eddy current is induced on the rotor surface, causing additional heating in the rotor. What are the installation procedures and the prescribed sequence for energizing and de-energizing voltage regulators?
Power voltage regulators are a major electrical equipment in distribution substations. Since the power supply capacity of most distribution substations is relatively small, the capacity of voltage regulators is generally below 1000 kV·A. Therefore, voltage regulators are transported to the site as complete units, with all accessories assembled at the factory before shipment. Hence, the installation work of power voltage regulators in distribution substations mainly includes transportation, visua
