Description

Overview

The "IP probe" is a professional testing tool used to verify the degree of protection of the enclosure of electrical equipment (IP rating), mainly detecting the equipment's ability to resist the intrusion of solid foreign objects. According to the first digit in the IP rating (such as IP1X to IP4X), the corresponding probe specifications and testing requirements are different:

Core functions and classifications

IP1X test probe (test tool A):

A rigid sphere with a diameter of 50mm, used to simulate the intrusion test of solid foreign objects with a diameter of ≥50mm (such as large tools or palms), suitable for the protection verification of outdoor distribution boxes, large machinery and other equipment.

IP2X test probe (test tool B):

A knuckle - shaped probe simulating the shape of a finger (with a diameter of 12.5mm), with a thrust of 10±1N, used to detect whether the equipment can prevent fingers from touching the internal live parts. It is commonly used in the electric shock prevention tests of household appliances, lamps and other products.

IP3X test probe (test tool C):

A rigid straight rod with a diameter of 2.5mm, with a thrust of 3±0.3N, used to simulate the intrusion of thin sticks or tools, suitable for scenarios such as industrial control cabinets and power tools that need to block smaller solid foreign objects.

IP4X test probe (test tool D):

A rigid straight rod with a diameter of 1.0mm, with a thrust of 1±0.1N, specially used to test the equipment's protection ability against fine particles such as sand, dust and metal shavings, and is widely used in equipment in dusty environments such as outdoor lamps and communication base stations.

Application

Industrial and Outdoor Equipment: The IP4X probe is often used for equipment testing in dusty environments such as deserts and mines, such as construction machinery and marine electrical appliances, to ensure that dust cannot penetrate and cause malfunctions.

Electronics and Precision Instruments: The IP3X probe can verify the dust-proof capabilities of sensors and medical equipment, preventing fine metal shavings from damaging precision components.

Why Do Substations Use Stones, Gravel, Pebbles, and Crushed Rock?In substations, equipment such as power and distribution transformers, transmission lines, voltage transformers, current transformers, and disconnect switches all require grounding. Beyond grounding, we will now explore in depth why gravel and crushed stone are commonly used in substations. Why Does the Transformer Core Need to Be Grounded?During operation, the transformer core, along with the metal structures, parts, and components that fix the core and windings, are all situated in a strong electric field. Under the influence of this electric field, they acquire a relatively high potential with respect to ground. If the core is not grounded, a potential difference will exist between the core and the grounded clamping structures and tank, which may lead to intermittent discharge.I
