Description

The RDS series outdoor disconnector is designed for 252 kV, 363 kV, and 420 kV three-phase AC transmission systems. It provides visible isolation for equipment maintenance, performs no-load line switching, and switches inductive and capacitive currents within its rated capacity.

The disconnector is operated by motor actuators with three-pole linkage. At 363 kV and 420 kV, each phase uses an independent SRCJ8 motor actuator providing single-pole operation with three-pole linkage capability; at 252 kV, a single SRCJ3 motor actuator drives all three poles simultaneously.

JW10 earthing switches are installed on one or both sides as required. The earthing switch is fitted with an SRCS manual actuator for synchronous three-pole operation. For substations with lower-layer busbar configurations, the earthing switch can directly earth the busbar; upper-layer busbars require independent earthing switches for each layer.

Key Features

  • Inductive and capacitive current switching:Capable of switching no-load transformer magnetizing currents and unloaded line-charging currents within defined limits, extending beyond basic isolation functionality
  • Dual-actuator architecture at 363 kV and 420 kV:Independent SRCJ8 motor actuator per phase provides single-pole operation flexibility while supporting three-pole linkage for synchronized control, enabling phase-selective maintenance without full line outage
  • SRCJ3 three-pole actuator at 252 kV:Single SRCJ3 motor actuator drives all three phases via mechanical linkage, providing a compact and cost-optimized solution for 252 kV substations where single-pole operation is not required
  • The earthing switch with SRCS actuator:Synchronous three-pole manual operation with positive mechanical interlock; supports lower-layer busbar direct earthing in multi-layer substation layouts
  • Flexible busbar earthing arrangement:Earthing switch directly earths lower-layer busbars; modular configuration allows independent earthing switches for upper-layer busbars, adapting to various substation busbar layouts without structural modification
  • Transmission-grade terminal loading: Terminal loads up to 4,000 N longitudinal for 363 kV and 420 kV ratings, accommodating heavy overhead line and busbar connections in high-capacity transmission substations

Frequently asked questions

Basic Electrical Parameters

  • Rated Voltage: All four models from Siemens, Hitachi Energy, GE, and Pinggao are rated for 550 kV.

  • Rated Current: The Siemens, Hitachi, and Pinggao models are rated for 4000A. The GE PKG Gen3-550 offers a higher rated current of 5000A, making it suitable for applications with higher power flow requirements.

  • Short-Circuit Withstand: All models demonstrate identical performance, with a short-time withstand current of 63 kA for 3 seconds.

  • Peak Withstand Current: All models share the same peak withstand current rating of 171 kA.

The interlocking regulations for bypass disconnectors in thermal power plants and substations are as follows:
  • The bypass disconnector of each line can only be operated when the bypass circuit breaker is open and its bypass bus disconnector is closed. For the operation of the line bypass disconnector, it can only be operated when its outgoing line earthing switch is open.
  • The bypass bus-side disconnector of the bypass circuit breaker can only be operated when the bypass circuit breaker is open and the disconnector connected for bus tie operation is open.
  • The earthing switch on the bypass bus side of the bypass circuit can only be operated when the disconnector on the bypass bus side of the bypass circuit breaker is open.
  • The earthing switch on the bypass circuit breaker side of the bypass circuit can only be operated when the bypass circuit breaker and its bypass bus-side disconnector are open, and the disconnector connected for bus tie operation is open.
