What are the mechanical failures of outdoor vacuum reclosers?

Operating Mechanism Faults:

Spring-Operated Mechanism:

  • Spring Fatigue: Spring fatigue is a common issue. If the spring remains compressed for a long time or is frequently operated, it may lose its elasticity, causing the closing speed to slow down or the closing position to be inaccurate. Additionally, mechanical transmission components of the spring-operated mechanism, such as connecting rods and toggle arms, can wear out, deform, or become stuck, affecting the accuracy and reliability of the opening and closing operations.

Permanent Magnet-Operated Mechanism:

  • Magnet Demagnetization: Demagnetization of the permanent magnet is a potential fault in permanent magnet-operated mechanisms. High-temperature environments, strong vibrations, or prolonged exposure to high currents can weaken the magnetic properties of the permanent magnet, affecting the performance of the operating mechanism. Furthermore, faults in the control circuit of the permanent magnet-operated mechanism, such as capacitor aging or electronic component failure, can also lead to abnormal opening and closing operations.

Transmission Component Faults:

  • Loose or Detached Connecting Rods: In outdoor vacuum reclosers, the transmission connecting rods may loosen or even detach over time due to vibration, corrosion, or other factors. This can prevent the opening and closing actions from being transmitted properly, causing the recloser to fail to operate correctly.

  • Wear or Breakage of Pivot Pins: Pivot pins can wear out during rotation. Severe wear can increase the clearance between transmission components, affecting the precision of the opening and closing actions. If a pivot pin breaks, it can directly interrupt the transmission chain of the recloser, preventing it from performing opening and closing operations.

What is the difference between a dielectric and an insulator?
What is the difference between a dielectric and an insulator?
Dielectrics and insulators are distinguished primarily by their applications. One of the main differences is that a dielectric can store electrical energy by becoming polarized in an electric field, whereas an insulator resists the flow of electrons to prevent current conduction. Other key differences between them are outlined in the comparison chart below.Definition of DielectricA dielectric material is a type of insulator that contains few or no free electrons. When subjected to an electric fi

Fault Analysis and Treatment of Oil-Immersed Transformers
Oil Leakage at Welded JointsOil leakage at welded joints primarily stems from poor welding quality, such as incomplete or detached welds, and defects like pinholes and gas pores. Although oil-immersed transformers are initially coated with solder and paint during manufacturing, potentially masking these issues temporarily, the defects tend to surface during operation. Additionally, electromagnetic vibration can cause weld cracks, leading to oil leakage. To resolve such leaks, the first critical s

What losses occur during operation of the transformer? How to reduce losses?
Transformers experience various types of losses during operation, primarily categorized into two main types: copper losses and iron losses.Copper LossesCopper losses, also known as I²R losses, are caused by the electrical resistance of the transformer windings—typically made of copper. As current flows through the windings, energy is dissipated in the form of heat. These losses are proportional to the square of the load current (I²R), meaning they increase significantly with high
