Description

The RVR-1 single-phase automatic voltage regulator from China manufacturer Rockwill is a tap-changing autotransformer designed for medium-voltage overhead distribution networks, compliant with IEEE C57.12.It realizes stable line voltage regulation covering a ±10% boost & buck range via 32 fine adjustment steps, each delivering approximately 0.625% voltage correction.

It supports voltage grades from 2400V (60kV BIL) up to 34,500V (200kV BIL), compatible with both 50Hz and 60Hz global power grids. All units are fitted with internal potential winding taps and an external ratio correction transformer, allowing one regulator model to adapt to multiple system voltage levels flexibly.

Two installation configurations are available: Smaller kVA models are equipped with pole-mount support lugs and anchoring fittings for platform/substation installation; large-capacity units come with integrated heavy-duty substation bases for pad-mounted ground deployment.

Core Product Advantages

  • Ultra-Precise Voltage Regulation:32 loaded tap steps provide fine voltage correction across the full ±10% buck-boost range, stabilizing grid voltage fluctuations and guaranteeing consistent power quality for downstream loads.
  • Extended Mechanical Service Lifespan:The proprietary arc-suppression tap switch design eliminates electric arcing during tap shifting, supporting up to 1 million mechanical operation cycles for long-term stable performance.
  • Minimal Maintenance with 20-Year Design Life:Adopts fully sealed oil-immersed tank structure with high weatherproof protection rating, delivering outstanding resistance to UV radiation, humidity and salt spray. It enables long-term outdoor maintenance-free operation with a certified 20-year design service life.
  • Ultra-Low Energy Losses:Optimized single-phase magnetic core structure greatly reduces iron loss and no-load power consumption, with the total loss of the whole unit controlled below 0.1% for superior energy efficiency.
  • Strong Overload Tolerance:Rated with a 55°C temperature rise design; it can continuously withstand 12% overload under 65°C temperature rise to cope with peak load surges on distribution lines.

  • Zanzibar project – voltage regulator selection misalignment with load requirements: root cause analysis & solution
    I. Incident BackgroundThe 33kV line voltage regulator (13 taps, 4% step per tap) supplied by our company for the Zanzibar project has been commissioned and is currently in operation. However, during nighttime periods of low load, the regulator has repeatedly caused the low-voltage side voltage at the downstream factory to rise to 420V, triggering overvoltage shutdowns of production machinery. Following these incidents, the customer specified a maximum permissible low-voltage side tolerance of 41

Introduction: A "Low-Load Hours" Crisis That Struck in the Early MorningBetween 1:00 AM and 7:30 AM on August 24, while most plants were in their low-production overnight window, one facility was forced to shut down three times in succession due to voltage spikes reaching 420V. This was not a grid fault, but a classic case of "off-peak voltage over-limit."During late-night hours when grid load is light, line losses are minimal, and excess reactive power causes the terminal voltage to rise sharpl
