Mongolia Gold Mine High Voltage Reactive Power Compensation Project

Mongolia Gold Mine High Voltage Reactive Power Compensation Project

01 Project Overview

1.1 Project Background

In November 2025, 30 units of the RWTBBZ-0.75-720 kvar reactive power compensation units were deployed for Mongolia’s gold mine power grid upgrade project.Developed and manufactured by RW Energy, the equipment was installed across multiple mining sites and substations in South Gobi Province. These units deliver critical reactive power compensation, voltage stabilization, and power quality enhancement.
These reactive power compensation units are specifically engineered for the 35 kV mining grid operating at 50 Hz.Customized for Mongolia’s extreme continental climate, they withstand temperatures from -25°C to +45°C, frequent sandstorms, and significant diurnal variations.Their robust construction features corrosion-resistant cabinets, wide-temperature capacitors, and fully sealed dust-proof structures.Under demanding conditions—including ±15% voltage fluctuation and dynamic load changes—the units consistently maintain a power factor above 0.95.
Backed by localized O&M services and remote monitoring, the solution has earned strong recognition from Mongolian mining enterprises, ensuring stable, reliable power for operations and infrastructure.1.2 Technical Parameters

02 Product Assembly

The RWTBBZ-0.75-720 kvar reactive power compensation unit assembly strictly complies with GB/T 15576-2020. The core process follows "Component Screening → Modular Assembly → Electrical Connection → Debugging and Calibration" to ensure equipment stability and precise compensation. Specific procedures are as follows:

  • Component Screening and Preprocessing: Core components (capacitor banks, controller, switching devices, etc.) are selected per 720 kvar capacity and 0.75 kV voltage requirements. Component tolerances are controlled; cleaning and anti-corrosion treatments applied. Enhanced dust-proof sealing implemented for outdoor applications.

  • Modular Assembly and Fixing: Capacitor banks assembled in groups; core power components mounted on frame/cabinet; control components installed on operation panel. Outdoor frame-type units equipped with protective enclosures and heat dissipation structures.
  • Electrical Connection and Insulation Treatment: Wiring executed per schematic diagram, emphasizing signal and power connections. Insulation tests and protection measures performed. Parallel-connected discharge coils installed to ensure operational safety.
  • Debugging, Calibration, and Parameter Adjustment: Controller activated to simulate operating conditions; sampling accuracy and switching thresholds calibrated; switching logic and compensation accuracy debugged; all protection functions verified.

05 On-site Implementation and Summary

5.1 On-site Implementation

RW Energy executed the reactive power compensation project across multiple gold mines and substations in Mongolia’s South Gobi Province. The team completed end-to-end implementation: pre-deployment surveys, stakeholder coordination, and climate-adapted preparations; strict unloading, inspection, and installation of RWTBBZ-0.75-720 kvar reactive power compensation units; parameter optimization for extreme conditions; and concurrent deployment of localized O&M, training, and emergency protocols to ensure sustained stability.

5.2 Implementation Summary

This reactive power compensation project concluded safely and on schedule with zero incidents, damage, or delays. All 30 units delivered measurable performance gains: system power factor rose from 0.72 to 0.96+ (exceeding the 0.95 target), voltage fluctuation narrowed from ±15% to ±4.8%, and grid transmission losses decreased by 18.5%. Over six months of continuous operation under extreme conditions (−25°C to +45°C, sandstorms), units maintained 99.95% availability with zero unplanned outages. The solution reduced reactive power demand by 620 kvar per site and delivered an estimated annual energy cost saving of $125,000 across the mining cluster. These quantifiable outcomes earned formal commendation from Mongolian mining stakeholders and validated RW Energy’s technical excellence and overseas execution capability. The deployment established a proven benchmark for extreme-environment reactive power compensation solutions, with RW Energy committed to ongoing O&M optimization and global market expansion.
