• Acoustic Emission: This method can be effectively employed to detect hazardous cracks in support insulators on - site in an offline mode. It is well - suited for identifying damages caused by mechanical stress, such as fatigue - related cracks. However, it is ineffective for detecting defects like pores.

 • Non - destructive Ultrasound: Relying on the ultrasound impulse method, this technique works offline by exciting the insulator and its defects through the injection of short acoustic impulses. Information regarding the presence and size of defects is then derived from the measured response. For every position of the probe, there is a corresponding specific response that reflects the properties of the porcelain within the volume around the probe.

 • Vibro - acoustic Control: This approach identifies defects in insulators by analyzing the frequency characteristics of porcelain insulators. The equipment uses “white noise” to estimate the power spectrum density of the vibration response of the porcelain insulator being studied, and it operates in an online mode. The device is designed to detect microcracks and other such defects. The primary detection criterion is the stability of the frequency spectrum over time.
