Good news has come from a Chinese tank-type filter manufacturer: its independently developed 550 kV tank-type filter bank circuit breaker has successfully passed all type tests, marking the official completion of the product’s development.

In recent years, with the continuous growth of electricity demand, power grids have placed increasingly higher performance demands on electrical equipment. Keeping pace with the times, the Chinese tank-type filter manufacturer has actively responded to the national energy development strategy, focused on technological innovation in power equipment, and successfully developed this 550 kV tank-type filter bank circuit breaker with independent intellectual property rights. The launch of this product signifies a major breakthrough in core technologies for filter bank circuit breakers by the Chinese manufacturer and sets a new benchmark for China’s power equipment industry.

According to reports, this 550 kV tank-type filter bank circuit breaker adopts an advanced dual-break puffer-type arc-quenching chamber design, combined with a thin-walled, high-strength, lightweight insulating pull rod, significantly enhancing both insulation performance and arc-quenching efficiency. Additionally, the product features excellent switching performance and high-precision phase-selective closing capability, enabling it to easily handle extreme operating conditions such as high-frequency large inrush currents and high recovery voltages, thereby ensuring safe and stable grid operation.

During type testing, the circuit breaker demonstrated outstanding performance, passing multiple rounds of tests consecutively in a single attempt with zero breakdowns. The cumulative number of make-and-break operations reached an industry-leading level. This achievement not only validates the manufacturer’s strength in technological innovation for power equipment but also provides solid technical support for China’s ultra-high-voltage (UHV) DC transmission projects.

A spokesperson from the Chinese tank-type filter manufacturer stated that the company will continue to increase investment in technological innovation, deepen industry-academia-research collaboration, accelerate product iteration and upgrades, and contribute more wisdom and strength to the green and low-carbon transformation of China’s power equipment industry and the sustainable development of global energy initiatives.

At present, most low - voltage switchgear assemblies in China mainly use SF₆ gas at a pressure of 0.5 - 0.6 MPa as the insulating medium. However, when the ambient temperature drops to around - 32.5°C, the SF₆ gas will quickly liquefy, resulting in serious problems with the insulation and interrupting capabilities of the product. To avoid affecting the operation of low - voltage switchgear assemblies in alpine regions, tracing heaters are often used to prevent the liquefaction of SF₆ gas
