The rural distribution network modernization project in Altai Krai, Western Siberia, has reached a successful milestone. Twenty-nine units of RVR 10 kV pole-mounted on-load automatic voltage regulators from Vziman are now fully operational, upgrading 180 kilometers of distribution lines across the region.
Altai Krai’s harsh continental climate, with winters reaching -45°C, poses significant challenges for power infrastructure. Historically, the region’s radial overhead lines suffered from terminal voltage deviations as low as -17%, impacting 45,000 residents in 78 villages.
Vziman’s RVR regulators were specifically engineered for these conditions:
The RVR units (300 kVA capacity) feature a 16-step automatic regulation system (1.25% per step) with a ±10% range. Post-commissioning data reveals that voltage at the furthest end of the 38 km line has stabilized at ~9.8 kV, up from 8.3 kV. This brings the voltage deviation to within -2%, exceeding the GOST 32144 requirement of ±5%.

The deployment ensures reliable power across a 95-square-kilometer area. The maintenance-free design is particularly vital for the Siberian winter, reducing the need for manual inspections in dangerous weather while safeguarding the local power supply.
Vziman continues to provide full life-cycle technical support and operational data analysis, furthering the modernization of Russia’s rural energy infrastructure.
