High speed earthing switch (HSGS) rated operating sequence according to IEC standard (for>550kv)

Field: Power switch
China

High - Speed Earth Switches (HSES) have two rated operating sequences:

  • C–ti1–O

  • C–ti1–O–ti2–C–ti1–O

where:

  • ti1 represents a time period that is longer than the time needed for secondary arc extinction and for the dielectric recovery of air insulation at the fault location. ti1 is determined by users while taking system stability into account. The recommended value of ti1 is 0.15 s.

  • ti2 is the intermediate time specified by the system protection. ti2 encompasses the closing time of the circuit breakers after the HSES open, the duration of a new line fault, and the breaking time of the circuit breakers. After this ti2 period, the HSES can be reclosed. The recommended value of ti2 is 0.5 s. In this situation, the HSES should be capable of operating without any intentional time delay.

The figure depicts the time chart for the rated operating sequence of C–ti1–O–ti2–C–ti1–O with a circuit breaker (CB) in the grid.

In the figure:

  • Energizing of the closing circuit of the HSESs

  • Current start in HSESs

  • Contact touch of HSESs

  • Energizing of the opening release of the HSESs

  • Contact separation of HSESs

  • Arc extinction in HSESs

  • Fully open position of HSESs

The closing time of the HSES is typically less than 0.2 s.

SF6 Leak Detection Methods for GIS Equipment
SF6 Leak Detection Methods for GIS Equipment
For SF6 gas leakage rate detection in GIS equipment, when using the quantitative leak detection method, the initial SF6 gas content in the GIS equipment must be accurately measured. According to relevant standards, the measurement error should be controlled within ±0.5%. The leakage rate is calculated based on changes in gas content after a period of time, thereby evaluating the sealing performance of the equipment. In qualitative leak detection methods, direct visual inspection is commonly used,

Why RMUs Fail? Condensation & Gas Leak Explaine
1. IntroductionRing main units (RMUs) are primary power distribution equipment that house load switches and circuit breakers within a metal or non-metal enclosure. Due to their compact size, simple structure, excellent insulation performance, low cost, easy installation, and fully sealed design [1], RMUs are widely used in medium- and low-voltage power systems across China’s grid network [2], especially in 10 kV distribution systems. With economic growth and increasing electricity demand, requir

Preventing RMU Insulation Failures: Key Causes
Preventing RMU Insulation Failures: Key Causes
1. Insufficient Creepage Distance or Air ClearanceInadequate creepage distance and air gaps are the main causes of insulation failure and accidents in solid-insulated ring main units (RMUs). Especially in drawer-type cabinets, manufacturers reduce cabinet size by minimizing space for circuit breakers, significantly decreasing isolation distances between plug contacts and ground. Without adequate reinforcement of insulation structure, such designs increase the risk of flashover under overvoltage
