Description

The RHB type Live tank SF6 gas circuit breaker is specifically designed for outdoor high - voltage environments. Utilizing self - blast arc - extinguishing technology and taking advantage of the excellent insulating and arc - extinguishing properties of SF₆ gas.

It can quickly quench arcs, ensuring the efficient interruption of fault currents. With a compact and robust structure, it can adapt to various harsh weather conditions.

It boasts high reliability and a long service life, which can significantly reduce maintenance frequency, making it a key device for enhancing the safety and stability of power systems.

Main function introduction:

  • SF6 gas is used for arc extinguishing

  • Monitor with a pointer-type density relay

  • Adopt the self-blast arc extinguishing principle

  • Adopt pointer-type density relays for pressure and density monitoring

  • SF6 Circuit Breaker Seal Failure Analysis and HNBR Upgrade Strategy for Venezuela 24kV Network
Core Challenge: The 24kV outdoor SF6 circuit breakers operated by Venezuela's National Electric Corporation (CORPOELEC), under the C5-M high salt mist corrosion environment along the Lake Maracaibo coast and an annual average temperature of 32°C, experience accelerated O-ring compression set, causing the SF6 annual leakage rate to deteriorate from the design value of ≤0.1% to over 1% in actual operation, frequently triggering low-pressure lockout alarms. This is one of the key contributin

Frequently asked questions

The core difference is the arc-extinguishing medium. A VCB uses a high vacuum inside a sealed ceramic or glass envelope — the vacuum rapidly diffuses ions and metal vapor after current zero, achieving arc extinction in <10 ms. An SF₆ CB uses sulfur hexafluoride gas, which has strong electron affinity — it captures free electrons to form heavy negative ions, quickly depleting the arc channel's conductivity.

In a live tank breaker, the arc chamber is mounted at the top or side of the column, exposed to ambient air. In a dead tank breaker, the arc chamber is placed inside the metal tank, fully sealed.

Live tank breakers are well-suited for outdoor high-voltage distribution with a dispersed layout. Dead tank breakers flexibly adapt to both indoor and outdoor applications, especially in space-constrained substations or where compact installation is required.
