Description

This three winding oil immersed power transformer is designed for 220 kV class transmission and generation systems. It is applied where two system voltages must be linked and an auxiliary supply must be taken from the same unit: power plants, transmission substations, mining enterprises and large industrial facilities.

The transformer is available from 31.5 MVA to 180 MVA, with a high voltage winding rated 220 kV and a low voltage winding from 6.3 kV to 69 kV. A delta connected tertiary winding provides a low impedance path for third harmonic and zero sequence currents, stabilises the voltages of the star connected windings, and can supply station service or reactive compensation loads.

The unit is manufactured and tested to IEC 60076 and is suitable for both step down and step up duty in utility grids, mining sites and renewable energy integration projects.

Why Choose a Three Winding Design

A two winding transformer can only link two voltage levels. Where a plant or substation must serve two distribution voltages, or must feed station service loads from the main transformer, a three winding unit replaces two transformers and one high voltage bay.

  • One unit instead of two. Intermediate voltage loads and station service supply are taken from the same transformer, reducing floor space, high voltage switchgear and civil works.
  • Stabilised star point voltages. The delta connected tertiary winding carries third harmonic and zero sequence currents, so the star connected windings keep a stable voltage under unbalanced load.
  • Lower loss than two separate transformers. One core and one tank carry the whole duty, so the no load loss of the installation is roughly halved compared with two units.
  • Designed for load growth. The intermediate voltage winding can be specified to carry part of the load now and be loaded further as the plant expands.

Design Technologies

For the design of this three-phase Power Transformer, advanced professional software is adopted for electromagnetic calculation, structural strength analysis, leakage magnetic field distribution, electrodynamic force calculation and electrical insulation design. These optimized design schemes lay a solid foundation for the excellent performance of the Transformer.

Manufacture

  • The core of the three-phase Power Transformer uses high-permeability grain-oriented cold-rolled silicon steel sheets, cut by Germany Geoge GmbH’s advanced automatic shearing line with burrs controlled within 0.02mm.
  • Adopting "no-upper yoke lapped" technology, all silicon steel sheet lap joints are 45° full miter joints. The laminated core is integrally pressed and bonded with epoxy resin to form a rigid, flat three-leg two-yoke structure with high vertical precision—effectively boosting the three-phase Power Transformer’s no-load performance and reducing the High Voltage Power Transformer’s noise.
  • Supporting plates are fitted between coil legs and inner coils; the iron yoke is bound with epoxy-impregnated glass fiber tape. The tank’s lower section is fastened with counter-pressure bolts, and the upper iron yoke is fixed to the tank at three points. This structure ensures the three-phase Power Transformer’s internal components resist transportation vibration without displacement, maintaining the High Voltage Power

Oil tank and accessories

  • The tank wall of the three-phase Power Transformer is made of wide steel plates, which are directly folded into a corrugated structure without splicing. This design reduces the number of welds, enhances the mechanical strength of the tank, and the corrugated wall has a sound diffusion effect, which further reduces the noise of the High Voltage Power Transformer.
  • The secondary circuit wiring troughs and control cabinets of the three-phase Power Transformer are all made of stainless steel, making the overall appearance of the High Voltage Power Transformer concise and beautiful.
  • All sealing surfaces of the three-phase Power Transformer use high-quality sealing materials and undergo precision machining. The edge of the oil tank is designed with double Power Transformer, and ensuring the long-term zero-leakage operation of the three-phase Power Transformer.

Frequently asked questions

The transformer itself costs more than one two winding unit of the same main rating, but less than two separate transformers. Civil works, foundations, high voltage switchgear, protection and space are all reduced. For most plants and substations the total installed cost is lower.

The external insulation is corrected in accordance with IEC 60071-2 and the specified insulation level is raised accordingly, so the required withstand voltage is met at site. State the altitude in the enquiry.
