Discover the latest updates: our centralized protection offering just got even better

ABB
Zhejiang Qianbang Electric Co., Ltd.
In the latest release, ABB’s centralized protection and control offering, SSC600 and SSC600 SW, has been extended to include line differential protection and support for even more standards. ABB’s centralized protection and control (CPC) offering makes managing protection and control functionality in electrical substations easier. Instead of using multiple devices at the bay level, CPC centralizes these functions into a single device, bringing station-wide visibility and optimal process management, and reduced complexity and cost associated with maintaining multiple devices. ABB offers two options for CPC: the proven turnkey Smart Substation Control and Protection SSC600 device and the standalone software version SSC600 SW. With the standalone software option, you can order only the software and install it on the hardware of your choice. With the latest upgrade, ABB now introduces line differential protection in the CPC offering. This is an effective method to ensure reliable operation of power lines through accurate and prompt detection and isolation of faults. A wide range of faults can be detected with line differential protection, and the method operates based on the principle of comparing the current entering a system to the current leaving the system. If there is a difference in current, it indicates a fault, and the protection operates to isolate the faulty part of the power grid. There are many benefits when integrating line differential protection in CPC systems. Including that the protection becomes futureproof with standardized communication, there is no need for dedicated line differential protection devices, and the CPC device can be placed in any location. You can learn more about line differential protection with SSC600 and SSC600 SW in this animated video. New in the release is also the support for communication according to IEC 61869-9, the International Electrotechnical Commission’s (IEC) global standard for instrument transformers. Standard-compliant approaches ensure interoperability between the devices in a system, which is ideal in environments where there is equipment from different vendors. The release also extends available communication protocols by introducing DNP3 outstation - taking an important step for SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems using this communication protocol. Several other user experience improvements have also been implemented, including making troubleshooting easier with improved access to historical measurement data, analysis of device capabilities, and resource usage.
