What type of cable can be used to supply electricity to the consumer using overhead?

10/19/2024

The following types of cables can mainly be used to supply power to consumers through overhead cables:

I. Overhead insulated conductors

Characteristics

Overhead insulated conductors are based on traditional overhead bare conductors and have an insulating layer added. This insulating layer is usually made of materials such as polyethylene or cross-linked polyethylene and has good insulating properties and weather resistance.

Compared with overhead bare conductors, overhead insulated conductors can effectively prevent short-circuit faults caused by external factors (such as branches touching or birds perching), improving the reliability of power supply. At the same time, it can also reduce the electromagnetic interference of the line to the surrounding environment.

For example, in urban residential areas, forests and other areas with high requirements for power supply reliability, overhead insulated conductors are widely used.

Scope of application

Applicable to medium and low voltage distribution lines, generally used for overhead lines of voltage levels of 10kV and below. For areas with small loads and short power supply distances, overhead insulated conductors are an economical and reliable choice.

In some special environments, such as areas with frequent lightning strikes and severe salt spray corrosion, the advantages of overhead insulated conductors are more obvious, which can effectively improve the lightning resistance and corrosion resistance of the line.

II. Overhead bundled conductors

Characteristics

Overhead bundled conductors are formed by bundling multiple insulated conductors together through a special process to form a whole. This kind of conductor has the advantages of small space occupation, convenient construction and low cost.

Since each conductor in the bundled conductor is insulated from each other, it can reduce the mutual interference between lines and improve the power supply quality. At the same time, the compact structure of the bundled conductor can effectively reduce wind resistance and improve the wind resistance ability of the line.

For example, in low-voltage distribution lines in rural areas, overhead bundled conductors are widely used. It can reduce the occupation of line corridors and facilitate farmland cultivation and other agricultural activities.

Scope of application

Mainly applicable to low-voltage distribution lines, generally used for voltage levels of 400V and below. For scattered rural residential areas, small factories and other areas with small loads, overhead bundled conductors are a more suitable power supply method.

III. Overhead steel-cored aluminum conductors

Characteristics

Overhead steel-cored aluminum conductors are made by stranding multiple strands of aluminum wires, with a steel core in the center. The role of the steel core is to increase the strength of the conductor and improve the tensile strength of the conductor. The aluminum wire is mainly used for transmitting current.

This kind of conductor has the advantages of good electrical conductivity, high mechanical strength and relatively low cost. It can withstand large tensile forces and tensions and is suitable for long-distance and large-span overhead lines.

For example, in high-voltage transmission lines, overhead steel-cored aluminum conductors are one of the most commonly used conductor types. It can transmit electricity from power plants to distant substations and provide electricity to a large number of users.

Scope of application

Applicable to medium and high voltage transmission lines, generally used for voltage levels of 110kV and above. For long-distance and large-capacity power transmission, overhead steel-cored aluminum conductors are a reliable choice.

When choosing overhead cables, comprehensive considerations need to be made according to actual power supply needs, environmental conditions, costs and other factors. At the same time, it is also necessary to strictly follow relevant standards and specifications for design, construction and maintenance to ensure the safe and reliable operation of overhead cables.

How does a transformer work?
Transformer Operation PrincipleA transformer is an electrical device that operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction to transfer electrical energy from one circuit to another. It enables the adjustment of voltage levels within an alternating current (AC) system, either stepping up (increasing) or stepping down (decreasing) voltage while maintaining the same frequency.Working Principle:Basic ComponentsA transformer consists of two coils, known as windings—the "primary winding" connect

What is the difference between a dielectric and an insulator?
What is the difference between a dielectric and an insulator?
Dielectrics and insulators are distinguished primarily by their applications. One of the main differences is that a dielectric can store electrical energy by becoming polarized in an electric field, whereas an insulator resists the flow of electrons to prevent current conduction. Other key differences between them are outlined in the comparison chart below.Definition of DielectricA dielectric material is a type of insulator that contains few or no free electrons.
