What is the TN-S System?

TN-S System definition

A system with a neutral point directly grounded for special protection of the neutral line.

TN-C-S system Advantages

  • Offers a low-impedance path for fault currents, ensuring quick activation of protective devices.

  • Avoids any potential difference between neutral and earth within the consumer’s premises.

  • Reduces the risk of electromagnetic interference due to common mode currents.

TN-S system Disadvantages

  • Requires a separate protective conductor (PE) along with the supply conductors, which increases the cost and complexity of wiring.

  • May be affected by corrosion or damage to the metallic sheath or armor of the service cable, which can compromise its effectiveness.
