Live-line spraying of PRTV on insulators
To ensure the safe operation of transmission lines and effectively prevent pollution flashover, the company's live-line work team recently responded to the local power supply bureau's requirements by conducting live-line spraying of PRTV coating on insulators of relevant transmission lines, equipping the insulators with a bright red "protective coat."
The live-line spraying operations were mainly carried out in industrialized towns in central and western China. With numerous heavy industrial enterprises nearby, pollutant particles from emissions tend to linger in the atmosphere and, when combined with moisture and static electricity in the air, readily adhere to insulator surfaces. These contaminants can soil the surface of insulating equipment, reduce insulation performance, and potentially trigger "pollution flashover," leading to line tripping.
What is pollution flashover? Under severe environmental pollution, contaminants accumulated on insulator surfaces can easily cause tracking and flashover, especially under humid conditions. This phenomenon may result in line tripping and power outages, posing a serious threat to grid safety and system stability. To ensure the safe and orderly execution of the live-line spraying operations, workers strictly followed standardized procedures and implemented rigorous control at all critical stages. Prior to each operation, insulation resistance tests were conducted on insulating tools such as spraying rods and ropes, conductivity tests on shielding suits, and verification of construction materials to ensure compliance with operational requirements. During spraying, strict control of the safe distance from energized components was maintained at all times to ensure personnel safety.
