What is AC Charging Pile?

Ac charging pile definition

Ac charging pile is a facility used to provide AC charging for electric vehicles. Unlike DC charging piles, AC charging piles convert alternating current from the grid to direct current through on-board chargers, which then charge the batteries of electric vehicles.

Ac charging pile working principle

Ac input: Receives AC power from the grid.

Output: The AC is output to the charging interface of the electric vehicle.

In-car charger: The in-car charger built into the electric vehicle converts alternating current to direct current to charge the electric vehicle battery.

Major component

Charging interface: used to connect electric vehicles and charging piles, usually using the national standard charging interface.

Control unit: responsible for controlling the charging process of the charging pile, including the control of charging current, charging voltage, charging time and other parameters.

Display unit: used to display the working state, charging capacity, charging time and other information of the charging pile.

Communication unit: used to communicate with electric vehicles to achieve negotiation and control of charging parameters.

Safety protection unit: including overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, leakage protection and other safety protection functions to ensure the safe and reliable charging process.

Ac charging pile advantages

Lower cost: The cost of AC charging pile is lower than that of DC charging pile.

Easy installation: usually only need to access the standard AC power supply can be used.

Simple maintenance: The structure is relatively simple and the maintenance cost is low.

Shortcoming

Charging speed: The charging speed is relatively slow, suitable for nighttime or long-term parking charging.

Development trend

  • Intelligentize

  • High-power

  • Establish and strengthen partnerships/connectivity

Conclusion

Ac charging pile has become the first choice for home and unit charging facilities because of its low cost, simple structure and quick installation, although its charging speed is slow, it is beneficial to extend battery life.
