Capacitor start motor single-phase

%
V
Hz
Description

This tool calculates the starting capacitor value (μF) required for a single-phase induction motor to start properly.

Input motor parameters to automatically calculate:

  • Starting capacitor value (μF)
  • Supports 50Hz and 60Hz systems
  • Real-time bidirectional calculation
  • Capacitor validation

Key Formula

Starting Capacitor Calculation:
C_s = (1950 × P) / (V × f)

Where:
C_s: Starting capacitor (μF)
P: Motor power (kW)
V: Voltage (V)
f: Frequency (Hz)

Example Calculations

Example 1:
Motor power=0.5kW, Voltage=230V, Frequency=50Hz →
C_s = (1950 × 0.5) / (230 × 50) ≈ 84.8 μF

Example 2:
Motor power=1.5kW, Voltage=230V, Frequency=50Hz →
C_s = (1950 × 1.5) / (230 × 50) ≈ 254 μF

Important Notes

  • Starting capacitor is only used during startup
  • Use CBB-type capacitors only
  • Must be disconnected after startup
  • Voltage and frequency must match
